Our Story
The Old Salt Loft started life as ‘Ragbags’ – a bag manufacturer founded by new Mum Sarah in 2010 following her family’s relocation to coastal Essex.
Sarah’s original business concept was inspired by her love of sailing and her desire to ‘make something out of an old sail’ – Sarah became the proud owner of a heavy-duty ‘sail makers’ sewing machine from the Southampton Boat Show. She loved the versatility and heritage of the sail materials and soon attracted a local following for her up-cycled sail bag designs.
As her children grew older Sarah was able to dedicate more time to the business and Ragbags organically grew in to The Old Salt Loft – a specialist design and production company producing branded products, corporate clothing, embroidered items and in January 2021 added a collection of change robes (Cozy Robes) to tackle the problem of changing robes being closed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Today The Old Salt Loft works across a diverse range of projects for its local, national and global clients – including the British Sailing Team, Oyster Yachts, Land Rover BAR and HCP. Sarah is delighted that to this day, she still receives emails from her early customers about their original ‘Ragbags’, and the sailcloth bags remain a popular product in the Old Salt Loft portfolio.
In January 2019 Sarah welcomed her husband, Paul into the team and together they will focus on growing the business further. Paul brings over 25 years of print and production knowledge, having worked for his father's own print company based in the heart of London. Paul is an experienced dinghy sailor having qualified for the British Sailing Team, they both now enjoy spending time with their family and sailing and paddle boarding.
